Balam means protector, a name that reflects our connection to the landscape and the conservation work Balam helps support.
Overlooking the Mzimkhulu River, Balam serves locally roasted coffee, homemade cakes, light snacks and treats. Whether you're setting off for the day or returning from the mountains, it's a place to pause, enjoy the view and support conservation through every cup of Soaring Wild Coffee.

Wildlife ACT manages the Mzimkulu Vulture Hide and Vulture Safe Feeding Site, just outside Underberg.
The project provides a reliable feeding site for endangered vultures while supporting long-term conservation, monitoring and research. Visitors to the hide can observe Cape Vultures, Bearded Vultures and a wide variety of other bird and wildlife species in their natural environment.
Income from hide bookings helps keep the feeding site and hide operational, ensuring this important conservation work continues.
If you'd like to support Wildlife ACT beyond your visit, donations go directly towards protecting South Africa's endangered wildlife and the conservation projects that safeguard it.
