Khotso is your basecamp in the mountains whether you want to hike till you drop, ride out on horseback, or relax by the fire with a cold beer under the stars next to the braai. Looking out over the jagged peaks of the Southern Drakensberg and onto the Underberg valley below, we’ve got activity and relaxation in equal measure, all surrounded by the most breathtaking landscape. Our accommodation is reflected in our setting, and we provide rustic, lively, comfortable, clean, affordable lodging to suit all and any who are looking to get the most out of the great outdoors and this magnificent place we’re lucky enough to call home.
Self Catering Rondavels
The Rondavel will be completely your own, and each has its own facilities for your sole use.
We have equipped them with everything you could need for a fun family retreat, a romantic getaway or a gathering of friends; perfect for those wanting to explore the natural beauty of the Southern Drakensberg or simply just to relax and unwind. With a newly refurbished kitchen and seating area, each rondavel offers one double bedroom, 3 single beds on a mezzanine floor, a decked balcony overlooking the gorge, an internal heating stove and a separate braai area for cooking under the stars.
Campsite & Overlanders
Underberg and the Southern Drakensberg has a brand new campsite.
Bordering the magnificent wilds of Lesotho and the spectacular natural beauty of the national parks in the area, Khotso has always attracted travellers from all over the world. It’s no wonder the Southern Drakensberg with its jagged mountains and rolling foothills is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for outstanding natural beauty - and here at Khotso, we’re a part of it every day. Camping, and rightly so, is a proud tradition in South Africa. The great outdoors is on our doorstep and when we do it, we do it well. Whether it’s pitching our tent and setting up the braai under the stars or pulling up our overlander, we are a nation who thrive outside.
Khotso Lodge
You bring your stories, your personality, and it’s this atmosphere that makes the Lodge the social, lively, unique place that it is.
En Suite: Nestled in each wing of the Backpackers Lodge, the en suite offers the comfort of your own shower room and views over the garden. It’s close enough to the action but removed enough to make your own space your own.
Twin Room: With 2 single beds and a desk, the twin room shares a bathroom in the Backpackers Lodge and has easy access to the kitchen and the relaxed seating and dining area. Nice views over the garden.
Double: The comfortable double rooms all share shower and toilet facilities in the Backpackers Lodge and have easy access to the kitchen and the relaxed seating and dining area. Perfect for couples, or spoiling yourself after a long hike with your own room and double mattress.
Dorm: The gold standard of backpacking, tried and tested, affordable and sociable, meet other travelers without breaking the bank and be part of the lively community at the Lodge.
Log Cabin
If you’re looking for the most incredible group accommodation in the mountains, our stunning Log Cabin has been built just for you.
Lovingly made with beautiful yellow wood timber with a vast thatched roof, the Log Cabin features a gigantic open-plan downstairs living area, complete with kitchen and full timber bar counter, dining area and a comfy seating area all positioned around a fireplace to keep your guests warm and the atmosphere incredible throughout the evenings. There’s also a large standing braai area and a wide deck to the front of the building for cooking under the stars, watching the mountains, and relaxing with a beer as the sun goes down.
